Release Baby Sea Turtles – Baby Sea Turtle Vacation at Vivo Resorts

“I want to go to there.”

This is how writer Martha Sorren opened her Azula article about the baby sea turtle vacation at Vivo Resorts in Puerto Escondido on the Pacific coast of southern Mexico.

“It’s a picture perfect paradise” says Sorren adding, “But also…you help release baby sea turtles to the ocean while you’re there.”

About Vivo Resorts

Vivo Resorts Oaxacan Beachfront Living is a private, gated, beachfront community resort on Palmarito beach just outside of Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Vivo offers luxurious beachfront condos for sale as well as private villa-style homes with most of their condo owners hailing from Canada and the United States. The resort currently boasts over 100 beachfront condos and 14 private villas. However, upon full completion there will be over 600 luxury beachfront condo suites and 114 private villa-style homes.

There are two primary things that help make this Mexico oceanfront resort stand out:

  1. Vivo offers owners a fully managed condo rental program…
Anyone can book a baby sea turtle vacation at Vivo Resorts (subject to availability) through the Vivo Vacations.
  2. Vivo also runs the Vivo Foundation, which was specifically set up to “give back” to the community…
Vivo Foundation assists the local orphanage and provides much needed support to the Palmarito Turtle Camp. You can read more about the Vivo Foundation in Vista Puerto’s article entitled, Vivo Foundation Aids Orphanage, Turtles, and More.

About Palmarito Turtle Camp

If you are lucky enough to book a baby sea turtle vacation at Vivo Resorts during turtle release season (August to October), at least 3-times a week you can “participate in the special event (and) give back to the sea,” says Sorren. The main turtle species helped by the Vivo Foundation sponsored program at the Palmarito Turtle Camp include:

  • Green sea turtles
  • Black sea turtles
  • Olive Ridley turtles
  • And occasionally, leatherback turtles

Palmarito Turtle Camp provides 24-hour security against turtle poachers. They also collect and protect turtle eggs, which are hatched at the Turtle Camp prior to the baby turtle release. The baby turtles are never touched by the human participants. Instead, small bowls are used to carry the turtles until they can be released.

Upwards of 300,000 baby sea turtles have been released since the program began.
