Western Living Magazine – Vivo Resorts Unspoiled Nature

Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca MX is the Mexico of Yesteryear!

Jessica Barrett of Western Living Magazine stayed at Vivo Resorts during her visit to the city of Puerto Escondido Mexico. In her article dated November 8, 2017, she wrote about the unspoiled nature of the Oaxacan Emerald Coast.

The Western Living Magazine article writes that, “Surfers seem to know where all the coolest spots are,” and even though Puerto Escondido was discovered by surfers as far back as the late 1960s, it has, “Remained relatively unknown to tourists until the last decade or so.”

There are 16 different indigenous peoples in the state of Oaxaca including the Mixtecs and Zapotecs. The “beaches are still chill” and the “laid back vibe” of Puerto Escondido along with the diversity of unspoiled nature in this part of the Oaxacan Emerald Coast are still intact.

There are no huge resorts or sprawling condo developments like you would find in Cancun or the Mayan Riviera. As stated in Western Living Magazine, “Hotels and condos are of the low-rise variety,” including Vivo Resorts, the “First multi-building waterfront resort to spring up along Palmarito Beach.”

Vivo Resorts is a 76-acre, Canadian owned and developed luxury gated resort set on a 21-kilometer (12-mile) stretch of Pacific coast beach. Vivo was the brainchild of Canadian Olympic downhill ski champion Carey Mullen. At present Vivo has completed 10 private homes (villas) and over 100 luxury beachfront condos.

Adhering to the area’s adopted “slow growth philosophy,” the idea is to balance the economic boost that Vivo Resorts brings with the biodiversity and nature reserves that, as Barrett states, “Give the Emerald Coast its off-the-beaten-track feel.”

Vivo Resorts also has a mandate to remain active within the community. Vivo is now the largest employer in the area and also created the Vivo Foundation. This not-for-profit foundation was formed to participate in local community projects. The Vivo Foundation also supports local school children, local orphanages, and the Sea Turtle Sanctuary of Puerto Escondido.

In her Western Living Magazine article, Barrett summarizes, “The balance between unspoiled nature and burgeoning development defines Oaxaca’s Emerald Coast these days.” There’s even “conch shell blowing” to let everyone know that “it’s time to release the turtles.”
