For three days each fall, Mexico's most iconic holiday blends Aztec and Catholic traditions in a uniquely colorful way. Don't forget something for the ofrenda.
Spread across two Mondays in late July, this joyful festival (Zapotec for “offering”) captivates towns across the state of Oaxaca to celebrate the region's strong indigenous traditions with dances, feasts, and gifts.
Every September 15, a reenactment of El Grito rings in a night of partying with shouts of Viva Mexico! Viva la Independencia! Go out on the town and commemorate our famous day in Oaxacan fashion.
FIESTAS DE NOVIEMBRE
Hosted right here in Puerto Escondido, this month-long beach party features a dance festival, surfing tournament, motocross races, culinary and cultural shows.
VIRGEN DE LA SOLEDAD
Over the course of three days in December, Oaxacans honor their patron saint with fireworks, cultural programming, and a procession of decorated fishing boats.
