Vivo Resorts Oaxacan Beachfront Living
In her August 2017 REM Online article for Real Estate Magazine, writer Connie Adair quoted Cary Mullen as saying that he caters to homebuyers who are, “Looking for a second or third (home), or retirement residences.”
Cary Mullen, according to Adair, is a former World Cup ski champion and two-time Canadian Olympian. After his sports career ended, Mullen became a third-generation developer and founder of Vivo Resorts, a luxury oceanfront condo resort complex in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico.
“Forty-nine per cent of boomers want to go to the beach and retire,” says Mullen. With Vivo Resorts Oaxacan Beachfront Living, the two demographics he hopes to attract most include:
- Baby Zoomers – Boomers who are still active and independent
- Generation Mex – Buyers who can afford a second or third residence
However, Mullen also wanted to build an oceanfront condo resort complex that would have all the creature comforts he would want himself in a vacation property. He spent two years searching for the perfect beach vacation destination and visited over 30 destinations around the world.
“Puerto Escondido came out first,” says Mullen adding, “We loved it. I said we’d get a place for us (here).”
Mullen soon realized that Puerto Escondido would also be a great opportunity for others as well. He began construction on Vivo Resorts in 2010. He has since sold over 100 of the planned 600 luxury beachfront condominiums plus 10 of the planned 114 private villa style homes.
What Makes Vivo Resorts So Unique?
There are a number of reasons that help set Vivo Resorts apart, for instance:
- Vivo Resorts is the “first” major resort development in Puerto Escondido, Mexico
- Puerto Escondido airport accepts North American flights via Mexico City
- Nearby Huatulco International Airport (just 1-hr away) accepts direct international flights
- Luxury oceanfront condo prices in Puerto Escondido are still well below the prices you would have to pay elsewhere
- The temperature of the Pacific Ocean here is 80+ F, which is warmer than in the Caribbean or in Hawaii
- The area enjoys year-round temperatures of 28 to 30 degrees Celsius (80 to 89F)
- The area has less rain and fewer hurricanes than in all of Central and North America
- All oceanfront condos at Vivo Resorts are serviced by a 3-stage water purification system
Are Real Estate Agents Missing Out?
At present, 75% of Vivo condo buyers are Canadian and 98% of the buyers bought their oceanfront condo at Vivo Resorts without the help of a Realtor.
Vivo Resorts does co-operate with real estate brokers so that’s “…a great opportunity missed, especially for Canadian real estate agents,” says Mullen. Most real estate agents focus on selling primary residences and tend to miss this segment of home buyers.
Vivo also offers a well-managed condo rental program so owners can rent out their properties when not in use. Vacationers can inquire about Puerto Escondido condo rentals at Vivo Resorts through the Vivo Vacations website.
Amenities at Vivo Resorts
Situated on Palmarito beach and fronted by 12-miles of Pacific beachfront, Vivo Resorts offers a lot for both potential buyers and short-term vacationers.
Vivo provides a shuttle bus service into the surfing community of Puerto Escondido, just 15-minutes away by bus. Puerto Escondido is a town of 45,000+ with plenty to see and do, including two very popular local markets; Mercado Benito Juarez and El Adoquin.
Vivo Resorts was designed as a private, gated resort community and is virtually self-sustaining. Every condo unit includes a fully functional kitchen.
As well, the new Vivo Clubhouse opened in December of 2017. Vivo owners and guests have access to an events space, store, spa, yoga and fitness center, kid’s zone, tennis and pickleball courts, and a business center. The restaurants at Vivo Resorts also serve farm-to-table freshness and local cuisine.
