In an Edmonton Journal Vivo Resorts article by Barb Livingston, NHL hockey great Kevin Lowe is quoted as saying, “Lots of people have a vision, and are great salespeople but Cary (Mullen) combines vision with integrity.”
Lowe first met Cary Mullen, a former Olympian and World Cup downhill ski champion turned real estate developer, when Lowe was dating Cary’s fellow ski team member, Karen Percy.
Following his skiing career, Cary purchased a 75-acre development property along 800 yards of Palmarito Beach in Puerto Escondido MX.
Located outside of the crowded tourist areas, Puerto Escondido is a surfing community of about 45,000 on the Pacific Coast of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. This area enjoys the country’s most consistent weather with annual temperature fluctuations of less than 5 degrees.
Huatulco International Airport is just over an hour away and Puerto Escondido Airport also accepts flights via Mexico City.
Buying A Luxury Condo at Vivo Resorts
Vivo Resorts Oaxacan Beachfront Living, which Cary launched in 2010, is now a private, gated, luxury condo resort community just 15 minutes outside of Puerto Escondido.
Kevin and Percy Lowe were so impressed with Cary’s vision that following their first visit to Vivo Resorts they bought a penthouse suite in one of the first towers.
According to Lowe, the purchase was more a “quality of life decision” than an investment, citing several reasons for their decision:
- The “believability factor in Cary being able to pull this off”
- The “healthy lifestyle you can have in an area with such great beauty”
- And “the weather, the weather, the weather!”
Once the Vivo project is finished there will be 114 private homes and, as of this writing, 130 of the planned 400 luxury oceanfront condos have now been built. There’s even an infinity swimming pool with swim up bar. See the Vivo Master Plan for more info.
The Vivo Resorts Complex
Most condo owners (about 80%) are Canadian but the Vivo complex is now also getting a lot of attention from American expats and retirees. Owners of select condos can also rent out their units when they are not there through Vivo’s well-managed Vivo Vacations program.
Condo developments with names like Botanica, Nautico Residences, Marino, and Laguna will all be joined to the central main tower complex through a series of manicured gardens and beautiful swimming pools.
Along with tennis courts and a pickleball court, the new Vivo Clubhouse is also now open offering plenty of amenities to condo owners and guests. The sprawling 4-story, 53,000 sq. foot Vivo Clubhouse includes a spa, restaurant, lounge, events center, business center, kid’s center, general store, ocean view gym and yoga studio, plus much more.
Cary Mullen also believes in giving back to the community and established the non-profit Vivo Foundation. Along with acting as the primary supporter of the local turtle sanctuary, the Vivo Foundation, which is supported by the Vivo residents, helps a local orphanage and funds children’s sports and educational initiatives.
“When you have done as much travelling as we have done,” says Kevin Lowe in the Edmonton Journal Vivo article , “it’s nice to have a place to put down roots and be part of a community.”
